Difference between a Sovereign and a Proof Sovereign

Sovereigns and Proof Sovereigns are both gold coins issued by the British Royal Mint, but they differ in their production and finish. Sovereigns are standard bullion coins, minted in large quantities with a more regular finish. They are primarily designed for investment or circulation, featuring the iconic St. George and the Dragon design. Proof Sovereigns, on the other hand, are specially produced with a high-quality, mirror-like finish. These are struck multiple times to ensure sharp details and are often produced in limited numbers, making them more suitable for collectors. Proof Sovereigns are typically more expensive due to their craftsmanship and rarity.
